Meniscus lens (meniscus) Plano Convex Lens: Optical Lens is an optical element used to transmit or refract light, converge or diverge light. Convex-concave Spherical Lenses are also called meniscus lens because of its shape. It can be positive or negative depending on the relative radius of the two surfaces. The negative meniscus lens is a transparent body with a concave spherical surface on one side or a concave spherical surface on one side and a flat surface on the other side. In contrast, a positive meniscus lens has a steeper convex surface, and the center is thicker than the periphery. An ideal thin lens with two surfaces of equal curvature has zero power, which means it will neither condense nor diverge light. However, all real lenses have a certain thickness, which makes real lenses with the same curved surface slightly positive. In order to obtain accurate zero refractive power, the meniscus lens must have a slightly unequal curvature to account for the influence of the lens thickness.
