[All-optical home seminar]Huawei FTTR all-optical room achieves large-scale commercial use, leading a high-quality digital home experience
Since the launch of the "Broadband China" strategy in 2011, after 10 years of development, China has built the world's leading FTTH network, and its achievements have attracted worldwide attention. Especially in the big test of the outbreak in 2020, the value of all-optical access network has been proved unprecedentedly. In view of this, China International Optoelectronic Exposition (CIOE) and C114 Communication Network launched a series of activities of "2022 China Optical Communication High Quality Development Forum".

At the first online conference "2022 China Optical Communication High Quality Development Forum - All-Optical Home Seminar" held on December 29, representatives from Shanghai Communications Administration, China Mobile, Shanghai Telecom, Huawei and developers discussed FTTR Internet trends. Yi Xilin, Vice President of Huawei Optical Access Product Line, delivered a keynote speech titled "Huawei FTTR Leads High-Quality Digital Home Experience".

At present, the optical fiber network has become a new engine for the growth of the digital economy. Research data from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences predicts that during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, gigabit broadband will drive my country's new GDP by 0.3% and bring 5 million new jobs; ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute) defined a gigabit broadband in 2020. The fifth-generation fixed network F5G featuring optical fiber networks will enable 9 major application scenarios, including cloud VR, cloud desktop, cloud government and enterprise, online games, online education, smart parks, smart cities, e-health, and smart homes. A new era of gigabit city development.

Yi Xilin pointed out that the family scene is gradually changing from an entertainment center to an entertainment + production center, generating new experiences and new demands. Building a seamless digital home experience around the five major life scenarios of smart home, audio-visual entertainment, sports health, smart office, and education care needs to be measured from four dimensions: the ultimate connection experience, the ultimate sensory experience, the ultimate interactive experience, and the ultimate security experience.

At present, two core pain points restrict the experience of "true gigabit" home broadband: First, home Wi-Fi coverage is difficult and prone to interference. Wi-Fi only covers local areas, generally only covering 80% of the area, and there are many blind spots. At present, 80% of the home optical cats are still in the information box. IoT connection/home Wi-Fi is easily interfered through the wall, the connection is unstable, and the delay is large. Second, the traditional wiring is unreliable and difficult to upgrade, and 90% of the network cables cannot be upgraded to Gigabit, many home telephone lines, network cables, and coaxial lines are paralleled. The lines are thick and complicated to construct. The network cable has a service life of only 10 years, and is prone to aging and corrosion, resulting in packet loss and rate attenuation.

To this end, Huawei's innovative FTTR solution deploys optical fibers to rooms to provide up to gigabit Wi-Fi coverage for each room. The deployment of FTTR supports full front and rear installation to create a high-quality digital home experience; and the introduction of indoor transparent optical fibers simplifies the construction scheme, and the wiring within the home can be completed within 2-3 hours.

The development and growth of the FTTR industry needs to be guided and promoted from four aspects: standards leading the development direction of the industry, housing and construction cooperation to accelerate the deployment of FTTR networks, innovative applications to prosper the content ecology, and the benign coordinated development of the industry chain to achieve cross-border cooperation and industry synergy. .

For the development of the FTTR industry, at present, national ministries, industry associations, and provinces have issued FTTR-related promotion policies. In April 2021, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, together with 16 ministries and commissions, issued the "Guiding Opinions on Housing and Urban-Rural Development", proposing to promote optical fiber to the room. In November 2021, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued the "14th Five-Year Plan for the Development of the Information and Communication Industry", which pointed out: promote the further extension of the all-optical access network to user terminals, and promote the implementation of fiber to the room, to the desktop, to the machine, according to The user-side access equipment needs to be upgraded.

In May 2021, the "Guangxi "Dual Gigabit" Network Coordinated Development Action Plan (2021-2023)" proposed FTTR user development goals: 20,000 in 2021 and 300,000 in 2023. In August, the Shaanxi Double Gigabit Action Plan proposed the development target of FTTR users: 50,000 in 2021 and 450,000 in 2023. In October 2021, the Yunnan Double Gigabit Action Plan proposed the development target of FTTR users: 5,000 in 2021 and 100,000 in 2023. Vigorously developing FTTR has become the consensus of communication management units and operators in all provinces, and a clear development guidance document has been formed.

According to Yi Xilin: "In 2021, the FTTR all-optical network will be commercialized on a large scale, and the three major operators will develop in an all-round way. At present, 65 provincial and municipal operators across the country have released packages, and FTTR has entered a period of large-scale development. In the future, FTTR all-optical networking services , will support thousands of households to enjoy a new smart life."

It should be pointed out that the development of FTTR requires the cooperation of the government, standards organizations, operators, equipment manufacturers, device manufacturers, real estate developers, home improvement companies, smart home manufacturers, and application manufacturers to achieve efficient and high-quality development of FTTR. Yi Xilin said that Huawei will work with industry partners to accelerate the promotion of the FTTR all-optical room industry and create prosperity together. Huawei FTTR gigabit full-light room will allow everyone, in every corner of the family, and every moment, to enjoy a stable and extreme gigabit experience.
