Huagong Zhengyuan Wu Kai: Starting from the optical chip to support the landing of FTTR 2022-8-22
Recently, at the "All-optical Home Seminar" held by China International Optoelectronics Expo (CIOE) and C114 Communication Network, Wu Kai, deputy general manager of the intelligent terminal division of Huagong Zhengyuan, made a presentation on the theme of "FTTR Optical Device Market Outlook and Development Discussion" In the speech, he talked about the value of optical devices, an important part of FTTR commercialization.

Wu Kai believes that "all-optical + wireless" connection is an inevitable trend of network evolution based on the convenience of wireless connection and the high speed and low cost of optical fiber connection. The embodiment of this trend in home networks is the transition from FTTH to FTTR.

From FTTH to FTTR, further introducing optical fiber connections into indoor environments is a general direction that the industry is exploring. Wu Kai said that compared with other home networking methods, FTTR has the advantages of large bandwidth, long transmission distance, stability, manageability and control. The main problem facing the industry is the laying of optical cables indoors, and there are greater challenges in installation and deployment, followed by the higher costs of products and accessories such as non-equal splitters and photoelectric composite cables. If the cost remains high, it will inevitably affect the commercial implementation of FTTR.

As an important part of the optical access network, optical devices, their performance, cost and other factors are important considerations for FTTR deployment. Wu Kai introduced that the deployment of FTTR will bring new demands for OLT BOSA and ONU BOSA; FTTR product form changes also require optical devices to reduce costs while improving reliability.

Based on the power budget requirements of FTTR networking, optical components can be appropriately improved to reduce costs. The main optimization directions include: the main gateway downstream GPON OLT adopts BOB design, OLT BOSA adopts PIN detectors, and removes isolators, boost circuits and large light protection ; Reduce the transmission power, thereby improving BOSA coupling efficiency and yield, and reducing BOSA cost. Its core element is to promote the industry to formulate physical layer standards applicable to FTTR networks, reduce the cost of optical devices and even gateways, thereby creating conditions for large-scale implementation.
